After nearly twenty years in the practice of law and managing research and development for university labs and U.S. government agencies in a post 9/11 world, Gerard realized what he really wanted to do: make movies. After learning the mechanics of filmmaking at San Francisco Film School in 2010, Gerard's first short film, "Emancipatus Emma," was an official selection at the Manhattan Film Festival. He learned by doing - writing, producing, and directing the feature film, "Blood on Canvas," Winner, Best Feature, Michigan Film Awards 2012. He attended the Producers and Directors Program @ USC School of Cinematic Arts / Warner Bros. Studios. Gerard studied for four-years at Studio A.C.T. @ American Conservatory Theater, an actors intensive for directors, 2012-2015.
